Embracing Your Inner Court Card

I’ve talked to a lot of people this past year about embracing their Inner Court Card. We do an exercise in some of my groups where we choose a future court card that exhibits qualities that we want to embrace – but for some reason we are not quite there yet, and we are not quite ready to move forward. Usually it’s because we are scared.

When I did this exercise around last May or June, I chose the Queen of Wands from the Gilded Tarot as my future card. And let me tell you, this lady scared the BeJeezus out of me!

When I saw this Queen, I thought, “There’s no way I could ever do all of the amazing things she does!” Then I wrote down some of the things that she could do, but that I couldn’t do, such as:

~ writing a book

~ leading workshops and classes without worry or fear

~ writing and publishing magazine articles

~ stepping up in her business community and asking people to be a part of something bigger

~ talking to her heroes

~ taking on one-on-one clients

~ believing in herself

These are some of the qualities and things that I wanted to do, and honestly I thought it would take me YEARS to get there. But with the help of some exercises and some hard work, I feel like I can honestly say that I have accomplished many of these goals!

This past year I:

~ wrote my own book and turned it into a self-published book and video series; I am currently writing another book to submit to a traditional publisher

~ lead several workshops and classes without fear. When I was told that one workshop needed to be 3 hours instead of 1 (the day before it was scheduled) because someone had cancelled, my response was, “Cool. I can totally do that. It’ll be fun!” I couldn’t believe that I really felt that way.

~ I’ve written and been published several on-line magazines. I now have a regular feature in one of them.

~ I arranged the Purpose, Passion, and Profits Business Training Series as well as the Free Tarot Valentine’s Day GiveAway

~ I fairly regularly chat with Barbara Moore and Theresa Reed on Facebook. I can’t wait to meet them in person. One of these days I will corner Mary K. Greer at a convention. 🙂

~ I regularly hold private conversations and coaching with clients on a one-on-one basis. This was a HUGE fear for me. I have always loved speaking to large groups rather than one person. It’s a numbers thing. If you are speaking to 40 people, at least a couple of them will like you, but if you’re only talking to one person, you’ve only got a 50/50 shot!

~ I completely believe in myself now. Sure, I have some down days here and there. Who doesn’t? But I have a plan for my business, a plan to become a traditionally-published author, a plan to host my own new radio blog show, and a plan to make 6 Figures a year.

So why am I telling you all of this? Because it was the act of embracing my inner court card ~ the person who I wanted to become, even though I thought she was so terribly out of reach, that helped me reach every one of these goals last year. And you can do this, too.

Find the court card you most want to be like. Write down all of the qualities that person possesses. Write down all of the things they do, like public speaking, writing, or networking. Write down some real, tangible things that person can do: write and publish 3 magazine articles, meet 4 new possible clients, attend a network lunch.

Then start taking steps toward those things. Pretty soon, you will look back and be amazed at how far you have come.

As for me, my Queen of Wands has served me well, but I feel like it is time to move on, to embrace another Court Card and another aspect of myself. It is time to evolve once again. So I am choosing:

The King of Pentacles. I’m ready to really get through some of my issues around money, and the blocks I have around money.

I’ve been working on this for some time, and I think I’m ready to move forward and embrace that abundance.

And it scares the BeJeezus outta me!

In fact, that’s one way that I know this is truly the next card I need to work with. I literally tear up looking at it. When choosing between the Queen of Pentacles and the King of Pentacles, I went with the King because I like the way he’s chillin’ on his throne. Plus, he’s wearing purple tights ~ how cool is that?

Honestly, though, the sky is dark behind him and the moon is out, suggesting a balance with his feminine side, as well as the ability to listen to his intuition and Inner Guidance.

So what are some things this King does? I’ll be writing some of those down over the next few days, as long as some real-World stuff that he would accomplish.

Now some people ask me, how do you get from where you are to where you want to be? When you are really scared, and that future seems so distant and so far away, how can you really get there?

The answer for me is simple: I use a Transition Knight Card. I’m a big fan of King Arthur and the whole Knights of the Round Table thing, so this is what I do: I find a Knight card that I CAN be right now, and I expand on those qualities until I can have enough courage to become that future court card that I want to be. So my new Transition Knight Card is the Knight of Swords: I am secure in my new knowledge. I know that I have everything I need to be right now to be successful and reach those goals.

And when I have to do something scary, I just throw on my suit of armor so nobody can hurt me. Yes, seriously, metaphorically this is what I do. And this is what I recommend to people. Your Knight can help you take baby steps to reach your goal. If you can’t be the Queen or the King yet, you can still be a Knight, and start making your way there.

So embrace your Inner Court Cards and go out there and slay your dragons!

Exploring Tarot with Story

Today’s card is I The Magician from the Wizard’s Tarot. What do you see when you look at this card?

One way to get to the heart of a card is to actually tell a story or fairy tale about the card. We are doing this in my 21 Ways to Read a Tarot Card study group this week.

I love to explore Tarot this way. It’s fun to be as over-the-top and outlandish as you can possibly be. You can even invent other people, animals, or situations that are not pictured in the card!

Here is the story I wrote for this card for our group today:

Once upon a time there was a young magician. He had learned a few things about magic while growing up on the shores by the ocean. He never knew he was a magician, only that he could do things others could not. He spent his days laughing and playing by the sea. One day an old man with a long beard came to visit his parents. The boy was taken to a nearby wizard’s school to learn about magic. He was overcome with joy.

Soon, however, the joy turned to dismay as his teachers gave him rule after rule, stifling his creativity. They even told him he could not practice magic except in class for assignments! This was ridiculous to the boy as he had spontaneously done magic all his life. The young wizard grew more and more distraught with the regulations, and began to act out. He chastised the teachers for warning him about the dangers of magic, and told them to shove their fluffy bunny, soft, and touchy-feely approach. And their rules.

On the night of Samhain Eve, the young wizard decided to do an advanced ritual. He gathered all of the materials he needed. This was magic beyond what he had done as a child. He began the ritual and his magical tools began floating around! The young wizard was overjoyed and began laughing. He raised his wand high overhead as the objects flew faster and faster around him. His hair blew in the breeze they created, and never had he felt so alive! He could even hear the sound of the ocean outside the window, a sound that took him back to his days of playing as a child.

A small crowd had started to gather down the hall and under the stairs. One or two students went to wake the headmaster and to get some of the professors. The excitement grew as the air filled with the electrical energy. The young wizard did not notice any of this as he was in a world of his own.

As the headmaster ran down the hall, the air around the magician went dark. A giant black rectangle formed over him, and no one could see him.Suddenly the rectangle shrank, and the young wizard had disappeared. His athame and cup fell to the floor with a shatter, and then silence as the candles blew themselves out.

No one ever knew for sure what became of the young wizard, but that doesn’t stop anyone from telling the tale. Some used it as a warning against being head-strong and using magic beyond your abilities. Others saw it as a demonstration of what you could do, and strived to become better at the art. As for me, I think the boy has gone somewhere that he can be free to use his abilities as he likes. When you go down the hall late at night, especially on Samhain Eve, some say you can hear the ocean, and a small boy laughing as he plays and explores his natural magical abilities.

One might surmise from this story that the author may find traditional rules, especially in school or other situations, to be overly-stifling. What you believe will often come out in unexpected ways when you tell a story about your Tarot Card. So go ahead and try it. I’d love to hear your stories.

“Tarot Through Your Life” Book and Video Series

Please excuse the mess around here. I am coming back to my Tarot roots. I have been working extremely hard on my business. Did you know I have a book and video series that teaches you how to read the cards? It’s called “Tarot Through Your Life.” You can find the link to it here.

This past week we spent about 80 hours sloughing through a pile of technical issues. Luckily, I have an awesome Geek God for a husband, and he was able to figure out the last few wrinkles!

Today I drew the 10 of Flames from the Witchy Tarot – and isn’t that just the way I feel? Like a kid in a candy store! I’ve been working on this project for almost 2 years (the book took me a year-and-a-half to write), and it is finally out. I couldn’t be happier!

Now, as far as my business goes, I took it in a direction that I’ve decided just isn’t right for me. I will still be doing some one-on-one coaching and group teachings, of course, but I’ll be doing a lot more readings than I have been doing the past couple of months, for a variety of reasons.

First of all, I just miss doing readings. I went to an expo last week and had to turn everyone away from readings. It felt really icky.

Second of all, I know charging less for readings isn’t as helpful. However, some people just need a little hope or a Band-Aid in their life – and who am I to deny that? While I love to work with people who are ready to make big changes, the majority of people are not there yet. And I realized that by not working with certain people I was not respecting them or where they are in this life. For that, I apologize.

Third, it’s my business and I can do what I want to. I’ll be focusing mainly on giving readings and teaching people to use Tarot themselves (again, check out my awesome new series here)

As far as my other cards for the day, I drew:

This is pretty priceless! My birth card is VIII Justice, and I just went through a HUGE transformation (XIII Death) this past week. The Tarot always knows. 😉

What have you accomplished this week? Do you have a major project such as a book that you’ve been wanting to tackle? It may seem daunting and overwhelming, but when you finish, you will definitely be like the 10 of Flames in this deck. Sure, it may take 2 years, but if you don’t start now, when will you start? Every day that you wait is another day that it will take to reach your goal.

I know you can do it. Let me know when you get started – I’d love to hear about it. You can also tell me at my Facebook page here. I can’t wait to see what you accomplish!

Tarot Round Table with Mike Hernandez

Resident Evil

Today is my first post about something I really like: scary movies. I’ve been in 8 movies, and all but one was a horror flick. The other night I caught the first Resident Evil on television, and I thought I would do a spread about it using the Halloween Tarot.

Alice – played by Milla Jovovich, Six of Bats. This person is going on a journey. Is she leaving something behind or moving towards a better future?

During the movie, she just has to keep on the move to outrun the zombies and try to outwit the super-computer that is determined to keep everyone trapped inside the Hive of Umbrella Corporation.

Alice is holding a pumpkin and there is a figure beside her. She tries to help everyone else out and has a lot of compassion for the others, but not at the expense of her own life.

I always like the fact that they named her Alice when she had to go down the Rabbit Hole in the first movie.

Rain – played by Michelle Rodriguez, Three of Pumpkins. This is a person who is always trying to make sure things are in their place. She plays a strong military person in many of her movies. If she’s not in the military, she’s still a bad-ass.

Unfortunately, I always think Michelle is going to get killed off in her movies – not only does she die in Resident Evil (after turning into a zombie, of course), she also bites it in Avatar and Fast and the Furious. Oh, wait, scratch that, if you stayed for after the credits of Fast Five.

I don’t know why I always expect her to die. She only lost an eye in Machete, and she beat all the odds in Battle: Los Angelas (as far as I can remember). I’m thinking her comeback to the Fast and the Furious series will erase me expecting her death every flick. Fingers crossed – I’ll definitely be going to see the next one. (I’m pretty sure Vin Diesel is wrapping up filming for the next Riddick, and Fast Six should be slated to shoot next year – yay!).

On a personal note, I think she is really starting to reap some great rewards from all of the hard work she has put in over the years. I try not to read Tarot on people who aren’t here because it’s none of my business and I don’t want to pry, but I think this card says a lot about the actress as well as the characters she plays.

The Umbrella Corporation – Five of Bats. What a great card to get that sums them up so well!

Not only is Umbrella a greedy corporation that is money- and power-hungry, they are also very sneaky as well. In fact, some of the movies suggest they are downright evil.

I may be getting confused with the Resident Evil book series (yes, there is a book series!), but at some point there was something about them creating the virus so that they could sell the anti-virus and make $billions. If that’s not evil, I don’t know what is!

Zombies – Knight of Pumpkins.

Zombies are pretty dumb. They have been reduced to the basest of functions – the search for food. Unfortunately, they also now think food is humans’ brains.

One of the things that always confused me about zombies was why they never attack each other. I mean, zombies still have brains even if they don’t really use them anymore. Apparently, Simon Pegg also thinks this is pretty weird. In Shaun of the Dead he and his friends just “act” like zombies and stumble around, and none of the zombies attack them.

But in Resident Evil the zombies are pretty well contained. They are the 500 or so workers who got infected down in the Hive. So surely, they are contained and won’t be able to move forward like the Knight of Pumpkins.

Yeah, that never happens. No matter what, they’ll find a way to break out or the infection will find a way to spread. After all, there is a Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4.

What do I need to know about the zombies? Ace of Bats. This was pretty funny. All I can think of is if you see a zombie coming, RUN!

Pretty good advice, as far as I’m concerned. In all honesty, bats are about air and air is usually represented by swords and means intelligence or some kind of intellectual pursuits. So this card also means to keep your wits about you, especially if you do have to stop and fight. Just remember to conserve your ammo.

So what do you think about horror movies? It is the month of October, after all. I like to do Tarot spreads sometimes on movie and book characters, and will probably do a few more spreads like this before Halloween.

Tarot Round Table with Tierney Sadler

The other day I interviewed Tierney Sadler. I always admire Tierney’s takes on the Tarot cards; they give me something to think about. So she is the first in a series of Tarot Round Table interviews that I will be doing for my blog.

Some of the things we talked about were Tierney’s ability to combine her marketing and business background with Tarot and her philosophy on Breaking the Rules. Tierney is all about finding your own meanings in the cards.

You can hear the interview here or even download it as an MP3 here:

Tierney and I had some good laughs over things we like (and don’t like) about the Tarot World. We have a lot of the same views, especially around reading for people who want to know things like, “Will so-and-so ask me out?” and “I like this guy…does he like me?”Now, you may think laughing about these things is rude, but my view is this:

I don’t like to do readings about people who are not in the room. You would do much better to turn the question around and ask what you can do to attract this (or even a better positive) relationship in your life. To ask questions about what other people think about you is very disempowering. I would rather use Tarot in ways that will empower people.

Also, during this interview, you will hear about Tierney’s upcoming release of something near the end of this year.

Outside of the interview, I asked Tierney what Tarot card she is, and this is what she had to say:

“Aspirationally, I’d be Existence from the Osho Zen. In
reality, I’m probably The Devil from the Housewives Tarot.”

If you’d like to see more about Tierney, check out her blog The Daily Tarot Draw.

Good Night, Patches

Last night we had to say good-bye to our little kitten Patches. A few months ago I went to the mailbox around 10 or 10:30 at night, and I heard this screaming that, as it got closer turned out to be meowing. I was afraid one of our cats had gotten into the neighbor’s yard, so I went toward the fence and called for them.

Then this little white furball practically jumped into my arms. I grabbed him and took him home. He was half-starved, had ear mites and ringworm, and was about the happiest, loviest little guy you’d ever meet. He would climb up on us and head-butt us in the face and purr, purr, purr.

Patches had a great time in our home, and even taught our older cats how to play again. He did well for a couple of months, then started going downhill again. We tried antibiotics and other medications, but nothing worked. He was diagnosed with FIP (which means they really have no clue, but that he’ll die).

So last night we had to let our little guy go. Since I always say Tarot can be used for practical things, I decided to do the Karmic Relationship Spread for me and Patches using Tarot of the Magical Forest. You can find this spread and many others in my book and video series “Tarot Through Your Life.”

Me – 8 Strength. Generally, I am a very strong person. Maybe too strong. Some people tell me that my life is so hard because God knows I can handle it. Sometimes I think that’s BS. On the other hand, this could just be a representation of my loving on my kitty Patches.

Patches – Queen of Wands. I’m kind of at a loss with this one. Patches is a fiery little devil who loves to play and loves to love. However, he had to deal with a lot as he got sicker and was unable to play as much. The other thing about this card is that the Queen of Wands is supposed to be my card. And notice, there’s a little loyal kitty in this card, too. Patches often sat by as I worked all day.

Karmic or Spiritual Lessons this Card is Helping Your Learn – Great, thanks for that. Okay, really, what I see in this card is that we all experience pain and hurt, but we have to learn to weather the storm.

Who or what is a help to your relationship – 3 of Cups. We had some great times with Patches around. EVERYONE loved him. Okay, JoJo still hissed at him a lot, but I think that’s because he could smell that he was sick. Last year his brother Sebastian passed away, so I’m sure he was more familiar with what was going to happen.

At any rate, remembering the fun times is always good, and celebrating the joys we have in life. Part of the reason I left psychology was because so many people kept dying, and so for a while I got really depressed about it all. Now we have animals that keep passing away.

I keep fighting that helping people transition from this life is what I should be doing. At some point maybe I can better embrace that and even celebrate it.

Who or what is a hindrance to your relationship or your learning? Page of Cups. I tend to keep my emotions very guarded and don’t really let anyone in. This is something I have been trying to work on, but obviously I am still having issues with it.

I tend to like to go off on my own and be by myself a lot, although I do like my husband to be around. He’s a Pisces – notice the little fish in my cup.

This card can also indicate letting our imaginations run away. I imagined for several weeks that Patches would get better, but it just never happened.

What you can do to improve the situation or better learn the lesson (so you don’t have to keep repeating it) – Queen of Cups.

The Queen of Cups used to really irk me. This past year, however, I am starting to relate to her more and more. I used to see her as the embodiment of a woman, and I was raised that women (and being emotional) is pretty weak and lame.

So it’s been a difficult journey for me to open up to anyone. I’m still awkward and weird around people, and I don’t easily make friends. However, the friends I do make I stick with pretty much forever, no matter how far from one another we may be.

But, I continue to keep myself emotionally detached. So, if my lesson is to form more emotional attachments, how come the Universe keeps sending me people and animals who are sick and dying? Don’t you think that would make me want to get even LESS emotionally involved? Oh, well, I guess there’s no arguing with the Universe.

At any rate, we will miss Patches. I told him a little about Sebastian and told him if he sees him to say Hi for us. I wonder if I did this spread for Sebastian if it would come up with the same things?
