Your Tarot Reading

Your Tarot Reading Want to Get the Most Out of Your Tarot Reading?

You’ve booked your Tarot reading. Congratulations! Now what?

Every Tarot reader does things a little bit differently. Even if you’ve had a Tarot reading before, when you see a new reader the experience can be totally different. Here are a few tips to make the most out of our time together:

1. Have a Question? Let me know if you have a specific question that you want to know about. We can do a general reading, but if there is something going on in your life, it’s great to bring that to the cards up-front.

2. Spill It! Don’t just sit there and uh-huh or wait for the cards to predict your future. The best Tarot readings are ones where you are involved. You might not want to tell me every sordid detail of your life, and that’s okay. (I was a psychologist for a decade. I promise there is nothing you can tell me that will surprise or offend me.) But you do want to address what you see in the cards or what you are feeling about what I say.

You can spend your 45 minutes waiting for the cards to reveal what your real question is, or you can use that time to dive in deeply and get the answers you are really looking for.

3. Take Notes. I do not record your reading. If you want to, that’s great. If you want to take notes, that’s great. Just take down the highlights so that you don’t get so involved in taking notes that you miss the process of the reading. If we are doing an in-person reading, you can even take photos of your cards.

4. Find Your Own Outcome. Don’t like the outcome the cards predict for you? Let’s explore what you can do now to create the future that you really desire! The cards only reveal what is most likely to happen if you stay on your current path. Change your choices, and you change your future. It’s always up to you.

Embrace Your King of Swords

Today’s card is the King of Swords from the Shadowscapes Tarot by Stephanie Pui-Man Law.

Many of the women I work with are afraid to embrace their more masculine sides. They see this power as pushy, bossy, and even downright scary! Unfortunately, not wanting to embrace all of your sides can lead to imbalance, frustration, and even depression.

Today this King of Swords invites you to embrace some of the aspects of your masculine energy. He is calm, centered, and focused. He has friends around him who fly ahead and look out for him, and who are loyal and kind. He is a wise leader who has grown sure of himself over time.

Where can you use this energy in your life? Perhaps you need to dig deep and discover who you truly are. Maybe you need to say no to that next bake sale or driving 10 kids to soccer practice so you can sleep in this weekend. Or maybe you just need to look in the mirror and say, “I’m okay, and my life is pretty darn good!”

Embrace the King of Swords today. What can this energy do in your life?

Wheel of the Year or Zodiac Spread

As 2012 comes to a close, it’s time to begin looking ahead. What will 2013 hold for you? Doing a Year or Zodiac Spread can help you understand what might be coming up, what you need to look out for, and where you want to focus your efforts in the coming year. The card to the right is IV The Emperor from Tarot of the Sweet Twilight.

This is one of my favorite spreads, and I like to do it sometime between Yule and the New Year. I find this more enlightening than sitting down and make resolutions, which most people don’t keep anyway. This spread covers what will happen overall for the next year, and gives you a card for each month that will be the focus for that period of time.

The Year Spread is dealt out like the face of a clock. Place one card in the center first. This is your overall card for the year. Then place a card where each number would be on a clock. This is your card for that month.

I like to place mine all face-down first, and then turn them over one at a time, beginning with the card in the middle. Some people like to turn everything over at once and then look for patterns.

If your year spread doesn’t turn out the way you want, remember, the Tarot is only showing you the most likely outcome  based on where you are in your life right now. If you choose to make new decisions, your cards will change in the future. The further you get out in the year, the more likely things will change because of the decisions you make.

This is the true power of Tarot – the ability to direct your life and choose a new future based on the information it has revealed. One of my favorite ways to do this is to choose another card for each month while asking the Tarot what I can do about the first card.

If I like the card, I might ask, “What do I need to do to ensure that this is the outcome I get?” or “What do I need to do to make this even more positive?”

If I don’t like that particular card, I ask the Tarot, “How can I make this month more positive?” or “What do I need to create a more positive outcome?”

These questions will give you more insight and help you put your life on the path that you choose so you can have the best year ever!

Do your own Wheel of the Year Spread, and let me know how it turns out. I’d love to hear about it!

Samhain 2012: Tarot Blog Hop

Welcome to the Samhain Tarot Blog Hop!

During this event, you will travel around the internet to 28 different Tarot websites. Each site tackles the questions behind Samhain/Halloween. What is this holiday really for?

Is it just fun and games, or is there a deeper meaning behind the veil?

Look closely, and you may find that what you thought about this holiday – and yourself – changes forever.

Join us as we explore and celebrate the turning of the wheel. If you dare…

Samhain, or Halloween, is the night when the World is thought to be closest to the other side. At midnight many people plan rituals and rites during the thinning of the Veil to speak to loved ones who have crossed over as well as to honor the dead. In some Pagan traditions, this is also thought of as the New Year.

Rather than look to outside entities this Samhain, look inside of yourself. All of your Self. The dark pieces that you think you have left behind. The parts of your Shadow that you believe you have pushed deep, deep down into a dark well. The 8 of Ghosts from the Halloween Tarot in the photo above lets you know that just because you thought you left them behind, it doesn’t mean they’re not still there.

We are told that we can look only towards light, to focus on happiness, and to be positive at all times. We are often shamed in this New Age world if we are less than optimistic.

Many cover their eyes to the truth of our beings: that we are both light and dark, happiness and sadness, fire and water.

The Eight of Bats from the Halloween Tarot

This Samhain it is time to take off your blindfold and travel into the veil of your own unconscious. What frightening things await you? Look into the darkest recesses of your soul and shine the light onto everything that you have tried to hide away.

Journey past the dusty cobwebs of who You are, and embrace your Shadow.

XVIII The Moon from the Halloween Tarot

This journey is not to be taken lightly, nor is it for the faint of heart.

It is only by recovering all aspects of your Self – Light and Shadow – that you can truly grow in strength, and power. By making this journey during Samhain you will become complete – truly powerful and even more beautiful in every way.

II The High Priestess from the Halloween Tarot

Explore your Shadow side. What aspects of yourself do you feel like you have to keep hidden? Sometimes this takes form of hiding our magical selves from the “normal” world. If Harry Potter taught us anything, it is that we must hide from the Muggles.

Even within our own spiritual communities, many of us are ridiculed and shamed for our beliefs. Whether you are told you are too Light and too fluffy, or too Dark and too Vampirish, everyone seems to have an opinion of how you “should” be.

This Samhain, take the time to get in touch with the True You. Who are you really, once you shake off the expectations of your community and the World?

Take a journey through the Tarot Blog World as we explore this topic and look into the depths.
